Building an Equitable Clean Energy Future in Southern California

OC Goes Solar is a nonprofit helping residents make the switch to solar energy and electrify their homes—together, affordably, and for all.

Who We Serve

As a nonprofit, we help homeowners, renters, nonprofits, and businesses across our region access trusted clean energy solutions – simply and affordably.

From Grassroots Vision to Regional Impact

OC Goes Solar began with a clear mission: to simplify the solar journey and make clean energy accessible and affordable for everyone—starting at the neighborhood level. Founded by three dedicated neighbors in University Hills, Irvine, the initiative quickly grew into a countywide coalition.

Through strategic partnerships, community workshops, and policy advocacy, we’ve helped hundreds of families make the switch to solar energy —with more on the way.

Our Story

OC Goes Solar began in 2016 as a conversation between three sustainability-minded neighbors in University Hills, Irvine. At the time, rooftop solar was becoming more affordable, yet few homes in our 1,714-household community had adopted it. We realized that many homeowners wanted to go solar but were overwhelmed by the complexity of the process—so we decided to simplify it together.

What started with a living-room workshop soon grew into a full community solar drive that helped more than seventy neighbors install solar panels. Since then, we’ve completed nine successful drives and expanded across Orange County and the Southland, helping more than 900 homeowners go solar with trusted local contractors. In 2019, we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to continue making clean energy adoption easier, more affordable, and community-driven.
