Senait Forthal

Senait Forthal is the Executive Director and a founding member of OC Goes Solar. She is a graduate of UC Irvine in Urban & Regional Planning with a minor in Environmental Studies. A lifelong environmental justice advocate, she serves on her HOA's sustainability committee & is an appointed member of the City of Irvine's Green Ribbon Environmental Committee. She is a member of CALSOMAH’s Job Training Organizations Task Force & the Orange County Environmental Justice (OCEJ) group. In her spare time, Senait loves hiking and taking long walks at her favorite Crystal Cove state beach.

Jake Cosmo

Advisory Board Member Jake Cosmo has enjoyed his entire career in the solar energy industry, with experience in engineering, construction and business development. He has worked with many types of customers – homeowners, business owners, farmers, schools, and government agencies – to install successful solar projects. He is a graduate of Cal Poly SLO in Mechanical Engineering and has worked on the implementation side of the OC Goes Solar program in the past. He is fueled by a passion for conservation and sustainability and believes in incorporating environmentally-minded changes in every aspect of our lives. In his free time, you can find him surfing, backpacking and living a minimalist lifestyle.

Sharon Burke

Sharon Burke is a board member and the secretary of OC Goes Solar. She has worked with neighborhood groups in University Hills on environmental and sustainability issues, such as protecting wildlife from secondary poisoning and supporting water and habitat conservation through the planting of California natives. Her home was one of the first in University Hills to go solar in 2013, when her family chose to participate in the Irvine Smart Grid Demonstration Project. Sharon sees OC Goes Solar as an ideal way for neighbors to come together for a project that benefits themselves, each other, and the planet. 

Randall Crane

Randy Crane is the Chair of the Board of Directors of OC Goes Solar. A native southern Californian, urban planner, and applied economist, he began his career as a VISTA antipoverty worker in East Tennessee. He later taught in Wisconsin, Mexico City, UC Irvine and lastly the UCLA Luskin School of Public Policy, and consulted in China, Guyana, Indonesia, Kenya, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Yemen on environmental governance and local development. Randy had solar installed on his home in 2018 using the OCGS process; he estimates it will pay for itself by late 2022.

Don Forthal

Don Forthal is a clinician-scientist, a professor of Medicine and the chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California, Irvine. Throughout his career, he has focused on public health, particularly in underdeveloped parts of the world, which led to his work at the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. His interest in environmental issues goes back to his youth spent in the Sierras. He is an avid fisherman and strong supporter of restoring our waters to their pristine origins. He is a long-time resident of Irvine.
